1. Online Application

Your journey begins with a simple online application. You’ll be asked to provide:

  • Your contact details

  • The trades and services you offer

  • Basic business information (sole trader or limited company)

This initial step helps us understand who you are and what type of work you carry out.


2. Online Assessment (Trade-Specific Multiple Choice Questions)

Once your application is submitted, you’ll complete an online assessment. This is a short set of multiple-choice questions tailored to the trades and services you selected.

The assessment helps us confirm that you have the knowledge and experience expected of a professional in your field. Every trade has its own question set, and while there is a pass mark, we don’t disclose the exact score required.


3. Application Review by GoTradesman

After you complete the assessment, our team reviews your application. This may include several verification checks depending on your business type and the services you provide.

Address Verification

We may request a document to confirm your trading address. Accepted documents include:

  • Utility bill

  • Bank statement

  • Other official correspondence showing your name and address

Company Verification (Limited Companies)

If you operate as a limited company, we verify:

  • Company registration status

  • Director name matches

  • Trading name consistency

Gas Safe Register Verification (Where Applicable)

If you offer gas-related services, we verify your Gas Safe registration number via the official Gas Safe Register. This applies to both businesses and individual engineers.

Waste Carrier Licence Verification (Where Applicable)

For trades that involve waste removal, we verify your Waste Carrier Licence number through the Environment Agency. Both Upper and Lower Tier licences are checked.

These checks help us take reasonable steps to verify that the businesses on our platform are legitimate, qualified, and operating responsibly.


4. Approval & Activation Email

If your application is approved, you’ll receive an email containing a secure link to activate your account.

Activation is the final step before you can start building your profile and receiving job opportunities.


5. Setting Up Your Profile After Activation

Once activated, you’ll have full access to your GoTradesman dashboard. From here, you can:

Edit Your Profile Bio

Tell homeowners who you are, what you specialise in, and what makes your service stand out.

Upload Photos to Your Gallery

Showcase your workmanship with before-and-after photos, completed projects, or examples of your craft.

Upload Public Liability Insurance Documents

You can upload your insurance certificate or policy schedule directly to your profile. This helps build trust with homeowners and ensures your account remains compliant.


You’re Ready to Go

After completing these steps, your profile is live and you can begin receiving job leads from homeowners in your area. Keeping your profile up to date—especially your gallery and insurance documents—helps you stand out and win more work.
